STUDENT ACCOMMODATION OPPORTUNITY

When I was a student in Bloemfontein 20 years ago I did not have money and the money I borrowed from my student loan account was not going to go towards paying rent so I had to find an alternative and ended up volunteering at the local primary school to work as a “student-teacher” which gave me free accommodation and later income-generating accommodation with one hell of an asset later. (PS Read to the end)๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

So I got a free room in the hostel where the kids stayed and had to use the same bathroom the kids used, but we “student-teachers” only used it after the kids went to bed at night so it was not a problem. The good part about this was that you got free breakfast, free lunch and free dinner every day and in return, you had to look after the kids and make sure they are all taken care off one day of the week and help with keeping the discipline and also help them with their homework and help the little kids brush their teeth ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคช

The best part about this was that we were 7 male and 7 female student teachers ๐Ÿ˜„ and we had to form teams to work one day of the week with an alternative lady every week, so the big benefit is that we 14 Student teachers formed the best relationships during this time and became really good friends. As the older students moved out we were upgraded to better rooms and at the end, I had a room with a bathroom and a small kitchenette and were paid an income of R1600 per month which was a lot in 2001๐Ÿ˜€

In this time I guess I was not too bad of a student either as one of the lady student-teachers today is my wife and we are happily married now for 15 years! I would not swop my free accommodation for anything.๐Ÿ˜€ I guess not having money sometimes happen for a reason. The question is can you see an opportunity and take it?๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ As Property Investor in South Africa, it is not always easy to start, but it is always worth it in the end.

If you would also like to take this opportunity as student there is good news as there are several Primary School Hostels that does this.

I was at Sentraal Laerskool which is at the foot of NavelHill. There are however several opportunities at most of the schools with hostels. It made a huge difference in not having student debt at the end as I then we’re also a barman at Illanga Estate which paid R300 per evening. Now that I think back life was good! ๐Ÿ˜€ I also volunteered as a medical proof at Farmovs-Parexel (Pty) Ltd

Clinical Research which is the medical testing station at the UFS where they test new medicine against a group of people to see if it has the same results as the existing medicine so you have to drink the medicine and then they test you every few hours. I made R8900 on my biggest test. The test was not that bad but missed a few classes. I then used the R8900 to buy sound equipment and convinced the owner at Ilanga Estate where I was his loyal barman to recommend me for a few functions and parties and later a few weddings and then I started building a website called www.WeddingDJ.co.za to bring in more income while being at every party in town. ๐Ÿค” Man what we won’t do to get income as students!
